Gas and Electricity
You must register with an electricity and gas supplier (if there is gas in your property) when you move into a new home.
- As soon as you move into the property, take a note of the meter readings and the meter number on both the electric and gas meters.
- If gas and/or electricity is provided by a ‘pay as you go’ meter, ask the provider to re-set this meter to zero before you put in any money or you might find yourself repaying the debt of the previous tenant.
- Find out who supplied electricity and gas to the previous tenant/owner by checking any paperwork left by them, or by telephoning:
- Scottish Power: 0800 408 1644
Scottish Power - Support Centre
- Scottish Power: 0800 408 1644
- Contact the power company you wish to use and set up an account with them. Check their prices to see which company is offering the best deal.
- SCARF (Save Cash and Reduce Fuel) can provide independent advice.
